So glad you enjoyed the blog. I too was surprised by the fresco of female athletes. The fresco has become quite famous, but I don’t know how widespread the practice was.

I learned how to sew in Home Economics, which may be why when forced to sew, I still use the slip-stitch.

Hi Sandra,
Saw this months ago, but was checking it out again, and yes Home Economics we had to take it seems, ours was more about sewing. We did have a club I joined, that was all about hospitality and such in your home. We were immigrants. blue collar. so anything to learn about American culture was helpful. Thanks Sandra!

What fun! Sounds like a great trip! Amazing blog as many of them are, so informative along with the photos. Yes, perhaps it is modesty with the women athletes, you know more of the prior years than I do, I was just impressed that they had freedom of clothing which changed with the English and their religion and the Christianity marches (I am guessing that is when things started changing). Impressive research! I am descendant of William Nanney, Long Island, New York. I have been able to link Robert Nanny of Stepney, England, later Soco, Maine through a series of marriages including Wheelwright, Maybury, Hutchinson, and Lloyd. My 4th great grandfather George Nanney changed his name to Anway between 1810-1812. If you have come across anything more regarding a link between Robert Nanney and the Nanneys of Long Island, N Y. I’d appreciate hearing from you.

I have a Fanny Farmer cookbook, and have used it for years since the early 80s I have made so many delicious desserts over the years, this has always been by my side. This is the very first time I have ever read anything about Fanny Farmer, the woman. She was a true pioneer, way ahead of her time
